1996" is the third single from Australian-born, London-based singer-songwriter Ellis King. It is taken from the ‘Better Luck’ EP, which is scheduled for release in January 2025. "This song was written during COVID and is about what I perceive to be a pretty universal feeling in your twenties of navigating the meaning of everything when it feels as though the world is falling apart. It reflects on that sense of uncertainty that I feel myself and all my friends struggled with. It contemplates life and feeling like you have lived more in your thoughts than in reality and finding it challenging to determine what's truly fulfilling. It’s the struggle of starting over and over again in both work, love and life and the struggle to find validation or answers to that sense of existential dread I feel a lot of us went through.
