The album was recorded with Mark Saunders as well as at Stratosphere in New York with James Iha and Adam Schlesinger, the band tested three of the songs at a show at The Hollywood Palladium on November 20,2008. On February 12 they performed the song "No One Sleeps When I'm Awake" live on NBC's Last Call with Carson Daly. In an interview with Buzznet Maja Ivarsson claimed that the band had over thirty songs to choose from when making the album, she mentioned possible titles such as "Underground", "London's Dorchester Hotel" and "Cali".
