A measure of pianist Renee Rosnes' self-confidence that she could invite the great Joe Henderson to be a sideman on her second date as a leader. And it was an indication of her rapidly emerging talent that Rosnes was not at all overshadowed by the tenor master. Using McCoy Tyner as a foundation, Renee Rosnes had already created her own style within the modal mainstream. With the assistance of Henderson, Steve Wilson on soprano and alto (for four of the eight selections) and a topnotch rhythm section, Rosnes performs four of her originals along with an exuberant version of Thelonious Monk's "Four In One" and three obscurities. A fine effort.
