Its the last day of April today, and that usually symbolises the start of the festival season in the UK and Europe. Nothing takes me back to the Summer festival sound in Europe like a bit of UK Garage and Breaks. The insanely catchy chopped up vocals, 2step beats, regular spin backs… This is one of the sounds I grew up with, and yet 20 years on, the “UK sound” is still as relevant as ever across the globe. Obviously, festival season feels pretty distant for all of us at the moment. So to engage in a bit of audio tourism, I’m diving back into my archives, picking out a selection of UKG classics, festival season soundtracks, and a few spicy new bangers. Enjoy.
