It’s easy to live in the past. Daydream about milestones, conversations, relationships. For some reason we are programmed to ruminate on the “one who got away” even though there’s usually good reasons why a friendship or a relationship ends. Still, we romanticize failed romances - time somehow makes the good memories overshadow the bad. We think about how they cuddled, laughed, pronounced certain words and wish we could have one more moment of that. Especially when we are depressed, we wish we had savored those serotonin spikes ever more, and would do anything for another hit.
