In 2022 aivi tran released the song "one and only" as part of their album "Tiger & Water". In their words, the original song "is about the moment of realization when you’ve found someone you want to spend the rest of your life with." I wrote this rearrangement, "Only You", in 2023 over the course of a few hours, while chatting online with some friends about how the year had treated me. It's a bit raw and unpolished, with false starts and awkward moments, and feels like it ends before it really gets going. Life -- and sometimes, love -- is like that sometimes. Things aren't always simple. You make mistakes, and don't know how things are going to turn out. But that doesn't mean that it's not special or beautiful. I've learned over the last 10 years that "not everything has to be perfect". I think this song reflects a little bit of that.
