Feel So Much
There is an uncanny futurism beating inside DarkDARK, the indie pop act comprised of Genevieve Vincent and Chris James that pairs cinematic synths with modern pop. You feel this in the tidal push-and-pull of their soundscapes and in their ethereal melodies. Their music, created just before this recent wave of melancholia, is so timeless that it doubles as the playlist for those aching to inch themselves back into life. They shine lights on all facets of the human experience percolating in our lonely minds. The sweltering groove of “Headless” (featuring Madge, who co-wrote the lyrics) contemplates embracing your dark side. Then there’s the title of their debut album, Feel So Much (via Nettwerk Records), it’s themed around empathy and relationships. Timing of these zeitgeist-ready songs, penned just before the world turned upside down, is coincidental. But Genevieve and Chris’ desire to blur time and space through music is not. “We imagine each track as a setting,” Genevieve says. “Chris and I share this weird synesthesia thing.” They’re so intuitive at creating elastic, genre-elusive storytelling because they’ve spent their professional lives exploring the connection between music and emotions.
