Without You (Stripped)
Lily Meola processes life in real-time with her songs, tracing her unbelievable journey to international renown with a novelist’s attention to detail and an empath’s intimate understanding of emotion. Now, the Maui-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist prepares to open up her world on her forthcoming debut for Nettwerk Music Group. Growing up on the island, she fell in love with classic singer-songwriters such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Cat Stevens through her mom before eventually discovering Adele, Amy Winehouse, and J. Cole. She homeschooled at the house of legendary producer Bob Rock [Michael Bublé, Nelly Furtado, Metallica] and would contribute background vocals to his projects alongside his daughters. On a journey to developing a signature sound, her timeless vocals and deep appreciation for musical trailblazers caught the attention of iconic songwriters and performers such as Willie Nelson, Steven Tyler, and Kris Kristofferson who she performed and collaborated with. These experiences encouraged her to continue to pursue a path of her own. Next, Lily shares a stripped version of “Without You,” a glorious depiction of the deeply rooted loss in a breakup, where heartbreak doesn’t lend even closure. An epic piano harmony and strings carry Lily’s angelic vocals through a personal story that effortlessly becomes universal. "Normally in a break up someone gets the short end of the stick...this song is about the time in my life where I learned what it feels like when a heart doesn’t break evenly. We kept the production on the more positive side so that whoever can relate to the lyrics can have a moment to dance it out,” Lily reflects.
