Second Story
Over the course of a twelve year friendship with Douglas Trowbridge, I have seen him bring his creative expertise to a multiplicity of projects. While sensitively complementing those he has supported, each time he has contributed an artistic comment of his own. It is a personal fulfillment of pleasure for me to now see his talent find new expression in this, his second solo project. The sensitivity of Douglas Trowbridge's performance creates a cross current of melodic images as well as an atmosphere of suspended emotions. Within the context of his artistic expression, Douglas invites his listeners to participate in the thoughts and feelings that inspired him to compose these songs. As with any quality instrumental composition, each encounter allows one to explore his or her own dimensions of inspiration as well, and to perhaps encounter fresh adaptations upon each listen. ln any case, the power of this music is in its honesty. simplicity, and most importantly, in the worshipful integrity with which it was inspired. Peter York Producer This is one of two, very difficult to find, Solo Piano albums from Douglas Trowbridge (Also known as Richard Souther, the same person). These were released in the mid-80's as part of a series of instrumental albums by the Meadowlark Records. (Sub.Div. of WORD label). They have been subsequently re- released at different times but not in the original packaging and with little reference to the artist. This is a very relaxing and wonderful CD, very peaceful and quiet. Douglas Trowbridge's has a wonderful gift for creating beautiful music and his textures are soft. Give it a listen with the lights down low and and something to drink. You could often listen with headphones which often brings out things you did not hear through speakers. A total piano instrumental effort this is guaranteed to add peace and balance and add ambience to your home or car. If you own a business this is perfect for that also. If you own a retail store you can't go wrong playing this over the store's sound system to your customers. They'll be asking you who the artist is. In 1986, "Second Story" was the follow up album to Douglas Trowbridge, "Songs Unspoken" solo piano recording. Douglas Trowbridge are actually the middle names of Richard Souther and the pseudonym was used to delineate Richard's electronic album "Innermission" (released at the same time). Recorded March 23 through 25, 1987 at Mad Hatter Recording Studios, Los Angeles, CA on a 1940 Hamburg Steinway 9 ft. Concert Grand.
