Wayne Wei
Wayne Wei was born in Guangzhou China, grew up studying classical music. He started playing piano at the age of six. In his twelve years of studying classical piano, he was always told to understand the music beyond notes on the paper, to understand the perspective and the history from the composers. As an International student, Wayne came to the United States during high school. He lived in Allentown Pennsylvania with a host parents that have rich musical background. Heavily influenced by the American culture, he got in touch with the composing and American music for the first time. He was introduced to music such as early big band from Duke Ellington to Frank Sinatra, later blues and soul from Ray Charles to Motown. They have become his inspirations ever since. Due to the heavy influence from Blues and Soul, Wayne was accepted to Berklee in 2015. Now he is majoring Contemporary Writing and Production. In his time at Berklee, he discovered his passion in performing & film scoring. Coming in as a classically trained pianist, studying jazz truly opened up a brand new world for him.
